The department formed in April 1987 in the structure of the Navoi branch Tashkent Polytechnic Institute, entitled "Economy", the first time was in charge of her PhD in Economics S.Abdullaev.

1991-1993 years the department called "Economics and production management" continued its activities as a part of Navoi branch of the Bukhara Institute of Food and Light Industry Technology.

1994-1995, Department titled "Economics and Management Engineering" existed in the structure of the Navoi branch of the Tashkent State Technical University.

In July 1995, when the Decree of President of the Republic of  Uzbekistan Islam Karimov formed Navoi State Mining Institute, the structure of which existed under the name of Department of "Economics and Management", with the month of December he was in charge of the Department Doctor of Economics, Professor Eastham Odilovich Ulashov as an invited expert.

In 1999, the Department for the decision of the Academic Council was renamed as the "Economics and Management", and since the 2000-2001 academic year began training bachelors in "Professional Education (management)", and the 2003-2004 school year -by 2011-2012 school year- and in the direction of "Economics (by industry)."

Associate professor Ashurova Nasiba Botirovna was the head of the department in 2015-2017. From the 2017/2018 academic year, the department "Economics and Management" is headed by Bakaev Husan Nuriddinovich.
